More and more often, in residential and office buildings, the rainwater is reused for various purposes such as flushing toilets, spraying the garden, water for the washing machine, ... To ensure that the drinking water is not contaminated via a private installation, the inspection of the indoor installation came necessary.

When is an inspection mandatory?

The General Water Sales Regulations (Algemeen Waterverkoopreglement) state that the indoor sanitary installation must be inspected. The inspection is compulsory before first use, during renovation of the installation and major changes to the indoor installation (e.g. installation of a water softener, pressure booster system, fire extinguishing system, swimming pool with heating, ...).

An indoor installation is only ready for inspection if at least the following appliances are installed, connected to the water supply and equipped with the necessary protections:
» central security at the start of your installation
» all appliances for hot water production
» central heating
» toilet
» bath and / or shower with taps
» kitchen faucet
» sink with taps
» refill system for second-circuit water (rainwater)

What does an inspection entail?

During the basic inspection, it is checked whether your indoor installation complies with:
» het Belgaqua-repertorium (PDF)
» the General Water Sales Regulations (Algemeen waterverkoopreglement) of the Flemish government
» Technical regulations for water intended for human use of AquaFlanders. These documents are also available from the water company.
» the ministerial decision regarding the inspection of the indoor installation and the private water discharge of 28 June 2011

Why to inspect an installation?

Drinking water companies provide clean and high-quality drinking water for Flemish families. That is why there are regulations for the domestic installation for drinking water at your home.

In order to avoid that the drinking water network is 'contaminated' with liquids other than the offered drinking water, due to private connections on private property, an inspection of each private installation is mandatory.

In addition, as an owner, you are sure that the contractor who placed your sanitary installation has been correctly executed his work and that all appliances are properly connected. Any violations will be noticed and noted on time.
